This route is a loop ride to Chet’s roadside memorial/ghost bike with only 0.2 miles on Shadeville Road. The Woodville start should minimize parking/congestion at the North Trailhead.
Tricia Smith has asked for a ride to support
Mothers Against Drunk Driving
. MADD have designated May as
Florida Ride Month
to
continue the campaign to change attitudes about impaired driving. This ride remember
s
and honor
s
Chet Smith (
Tallahassee Democrat article-Chet Smith
),
Jake Boykin (
Tallahassee Democrat article-Jake Boykin
)
and
all others who have needlessly lost their lives to an impaired driver while riding their bikes.
They are lost to us because selfish people decided it was OK to drive when they weren’t fit to even sit behind a steering wheel.
This ride also remembers and honors local riders Steve Reker and Dave Baton and all other local cyclists who have died after being struck by a motor vehicle while riding their bikes.
We'll ride in silence from J. Lewis Hall to Wakulla Station, then continue to the Ghost Bike of Chet Smith as a tribute.
This awareness ride is open to all and donations would be appreciated. Please note, you don’t have to “fork over money” to join in but if you’d care to support MADD’s vital on-going work, please consider joining
Team Chet
.
This ride frequently regroups and we will be open to altering the distance, mid-ride. Anyone who speaks up with what they need regarding speed and distance will not be dropped
.
